Malted Krispie Tart with Diplomat Cream

SNAP. CRACKLE. OR POP. I'm not sure which one was my favorite. While not my childhood cereal of choice, they help put a sparkling touch on a candy-filled decadent tart, from BAKED Explorations. Make sure to catch all the Malted Tarts, along with more krispies, and the recipe, over at Baked Sunday Mornings!

Malt is the "word of the day" here. That old Carnation standby is used in the tart crust, as well as the fancy-pants cream filling, which the BAKED boys call "Diplomat Cream" - a vanilla pastry cream lightened with whipping cream and a touch of rum. The three elves lend their breakfast treat with cooked and caramelized Rice Krispies, along with chopped Whoppers - sprinkled over a rich, milk chocolate ganache. Definitely not for breakfast. Definitely worth making. Definitely Diplomatic & Delicious.

CEREAL EXPLORATIONS:
I was always a Toucan Sam fan, along with his Froot Loops cereal. The Snap, Crackle & Pop didn't seem to last very long, and who likes soggy cereal.  WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE?

Enjoyed your post. The crispies did get a little soggy while the finished tart set up in the fridge...but I made extras and sprinkled them on the top before eating and no one noticed the soggy ones...they just liked all the yummy crispy crispies...So I'll get all three, Snap, Crackle, and Pop my vote.

I just got this book and have made a couple of things from it so I will try these for the guys and the line up for April 10th looks like a winner, too. Thanks for the beautiful photo. Fruit things get my vote every single time...Toucan Sam a definite favorite, even now when I can get by with it.

I love your photo collage! I like the look of the straight-sided tart, too. Very sleek, indeed.

I love the retro cereal boxes! I messed up my crispies, they never actually got crunchy, so I almost feel better now knowing that they still got soggy for people that did it the right way.

Oh and Lucky Charms were my old standby growing up. Love that silly leprechaun.

Great tart! I wish I knew about this one last Nov when I was trying to use up all my Halloween candy. I always preferred Froot Loops too.

I love your mini tart! I'm not such a fan of Rice Krispies for breakfast (although of course, I love the marshmallow treats!), but the caramelized crispie recipe has given me a whole new appreciation for the cereal!

silly rabbit... TRIX are for kids. It was always my favorite. But, does anyone remember Quisp and Quake? Knock offs of Capn' Crunch.
The tart looks great! (no.. not you.. the actual tart..)

What a cute post, Mike. Your little tartlet looks beautiful! It is the first time I have used malted milk powder in anything and now I am hooked. I can't wait to use it in David's ice cream! :)

I might need to make this one for Jamie. I'm not a big malt fan, but he is. As for cereal, my guilty pleasure is Lucky Charms. =)

I was the most boring child in the world- always cheerios. plan cheerios. This dessert looks over the top (in a good candy and cereal super power kind of way).
